Helping children build strong foundations—and the confidence to use them.

About me

Hi, I'm Mrs. Sexton, and I'm so glad you're here.

After 15 years in the classroom and five years of tutoring, I've had the privilege of working with students across several grade levels, including kindergarten, first grade, and fifth grade. I hold a master's degree in education and have continued to grow my knowledge through professional learning, including the Nebraska Early Literacy Workshop through UNO. I've also served on multiple committees including reading and science committees throughout my teaching career.

But more than anything, I love helping students discover what they're capable of.

I started The Literacy Studio because I believe the early years of a child's education matter tremendously. When children develop strong foundations in reading and math, they have something solid to build on as school becomes more challenging. And when those skills are paired with confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to take risks, something even more powerful happens: children begin to believe in themselves as learners.

Building skills. Growing confidence.

I want my students to feel confident and brave enough to take risks in their learning.

Mistakes aren't something to be afraid of—they're part of learning. I want children to feel safe enough to try, to make mistakes, figure things out, and try again. My goal isn't simply to help a student become a stronger reader or mathematician. It's to help them become a learner who believes, I can do this. I can figure this out. I'm not afraid to try.

That's why I created The Literacy Studio.

Through targeted reading and math instruction, I can help identify and strengthen the skills a child needs most while also nurturing the confidence and independence that will serve them far beyond our time together. Whether we're filling in a gap, strengthening a skill, or giving a child an extra opportunity to practice and grow, my goal is to help build a foundation that is truly rock solid.

A little more about me

My connection to the Elkhorn community is personal, too. My husband and I have called the Elkhorn community home for nearly 20 years, and all four of our children have attended Elkhorn schools. Three have graduated, one is now teaching in the district, and one is currently an Elkhorn student.

I've had the opportunity to experience the Elkhorn community not only as an educator, but also as a parent—and that community means a great deal to our family.

I'm excited to bring my experience, my passion for learning, and my love of working with children to The Literacy Studio.

My hope is simple: that every child who works with me leaves feeling a little more capable, a little more confident, and a little more brave than when they walked in.
